
If your Mac has macOS Sierra or earlier, drag the thumbnails directly onto a thumbnail in the other PDF.
Drag the selected thumbnails into the sidebar of the other PDF, then release where you want them to appear. Press and hold the Command key, select the page thumbnails that you want to add to the other document, then let go of Command. Filter by these if you want a narrower list of alternatives or looking for a specific functionality of Preview. Preview alternatives are mainly Image Viewers but may also be PDF Readers or Photo Managers. In each document, choose View > Thumbnails to show page thumbnails in the sidebar. Other interesting Mac alternatives to Preview are XnView MP, ImageMagick, Adobe Acrobat DC and qView. Open the PDFs that you want to combine in Preview. I have CutePDF which I believe can do this but bonus points if it works within the app by itself, and can compress it in some way so I can send it over gmail.
I want to be able to open them in an app, see all of the pages in a thumbnail view on the side, be able to pick and choose which ones I want to keep, and then I want to rearrange them according to how I need them. Some of these files will be jpegs, some will be PDF. So they'll send me their tax returns, bank statements, paystubs, etc. I'm a real estate agent and I need to put files together for people to get them approved.
